Willie Griffis, age 87, of Sanderson, Florida, passed away at home surrounded by his beloved family on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. He was born on September 9, 1935, in White Springs, Florida, to Catherine (Cribbs) and Sam Griffis.
Mr. Griffis was a logger all of his life. He was well known for wearing his silver hard hat. You never saw him without it on. Mr. Griffis was a simple man who loved pulpwood and logging, being a prankster, and his family. All of his great-grandbabies were his favorite because he could never remember their names. He will always be remembered and loved by those who knew him.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; four brothers; his wife, Vonnie Russ Griffis; and son, Rex "Allen" Griffis. He is survived by his companion of 10 years, Jessie Harvey; sons, Edward Griffis (Leona), Ray Griffis, and Keith Griffis (Tabitha), all of Sanderson; daughters, Patricia Heppner (Mike) of Lake City, Debbie Smith (Max) of Lake City, and Penny Croft (Eddie) of Sanderson; daughter-in-love, Mary Griffis of Sanderson; his best buddy and helper, Dylan Harvey of Sanderson; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; his beloved canine buddy, Porky; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Raiford Road Church, 9201 South State Road 121, Macclenny, Florida 32063. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Raiford Road Church with Pastor Dale Hodges Jr. and Pastor Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment in Olustee Cemetery will follow.
