Violet Wallace Obituary

Violet C. Wallace, age 91, of Clay Hill, Florida, became absent from her body and present with her Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was so ready to take this next step to see her Savior, her sweet Gene, David, Nathaniel, and Andrew.
Violet was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on September 28, 1931. She grew up in Jacksonville along with her siblings, Jeanette and Joe. There were some hard times for her family, and for a brief period in 1937, Violet and Joe lived at the Baptist Home for Children. Violet remembers the love and security she felt there.
She attended East Jacksonville School, John Gorrie Jr. High, and Lee High School. For her senior year, she transferred to Jacksonville School of Technology and graduated in 1949 as the salutatorian of her class.
Her first job was at a pea packing plant near her home when she was 12. When she was 14, she worked at Nichols dry cleaning after school and during the summer. After high school, she started working for R.C. Motor Lines as a bookkeeper and was there for more than 20 years and made lifelong friendships. She later worked for Don L. Tullis Insurance, and her final years of work were at Clay Hill Elementary in the library. Of all her jobs, she loved working in the library with all the children more than any other.
She met her “Sweet Gene” at Arlington Baptist Church, and they married on  September 3, 1949. They lived in Arlington and eventually built a home on the river, where there were many happy days of fishing. They had two children, David and Diane.
In 1969, they moved to Clay Hill and started the work of turning a raw piece of land into a farm.
It was at Clay Hill Baptist Church that Violet came to know the Lord as her Savior, and she was baptized. She loved her church and, through the years, was busy working as a Sunday School teacher, helping with Vacation Bible School, and working diligently to visit new neighbors and let them know about the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wallace; son, David Wallace; grandson, Nathaniel Lassiter; and great-grandson, Andrew Lassiter. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Lassiter; son-in-law, Glenn Lassiter; grandchildren, Jessica Lassiter, Timothy Lassiter, Zachary Lassiter (Rachel), Christina Lassiter, Jubilee Lassiter, and Eugene Wallace; and two great-grandchildren, Annamarie Lassiter, and Benjamin Lassiter.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Clay Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Crews officiating. Interment will follow at Long Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Clay Hill Baptist Church.
