Ronald “Big Ron” Witcher Sr., age 77, of Middleburg, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Haven Hospice Custead Care Center in Middleburg. Ronald was born in High Point, North Carolina, on November 27, 1945, to Joseph Orville Witcher and Hazel Martin and had lived in Middleburg for the past 50 years. Big Ron graduated from Englewood High School in 1964 and went on to serve his nation faithfully in the United States Army. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed being outdoors with his hunting dogs whether they were chasing fox or deer. He spent the rest of his career as superintendent for several construction companies, finally retiring from Perry-McCall. Big Ron was very proud to have had a hand in landmark projects around Jacksonville, such as Memorial Hospital and the University of North Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pat Stultz; and a dear nephew, Howell Stultz. Survivors include his precious wife of 58 years, Sarah Witcher; son, Ronald Witcher Jr. (Rhonda); and his brother, Steve Witcher (Dotty) all of Middleburg; nephews, Stevie and Randall; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Holly Hill Memorial Park, 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, Florida, with Pastor Mylon Pope officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services at the cemetery.
