MCPO Melvin E. Armstrong, age 80, of Macclenny, Florida, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Community Hospice Douglas Center for Caring in Jacksonville after a long illness.
MCPO Armstrong was born in Fairfield, Alabama, on November 7, 1940, to Kenneth and Pauline Armstrong. He served 29 years in the US Navy, 11 years with Military Sealift Command. He worked 11 years at the Walmart Distribution Center in Macclenny. He loved to hunt and fish, but most of all, he loved his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kennethia (Lee); brother, Larry (Carolyn); and grandson, Bryn Harris.
MCPO Armstrong is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Tracy Carrington of Virginia, Teri Knoop (Bill) of Virginia, and Renee St. Germain (Ron) of Florida; sons, Scott Harris of Virginia, and Robert Harris of Florida; very close friend, Mickey Schmid of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
He will be missed by all.
