Lonnie “Bud” Owen Padgett Jr., age 82, of Clay Hill, Florida, went Home to be with Jesus, on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Governors Creek Health and Rehabilitation in Green Cove Springs. He was born on August 2, 1939, in Blackshear, Georgia, and had lived in the Clay Hill area for the past 56 years. Bud served in the United States Air Force and continued in the Air Force Reserve. He was employed by CSX Railroad and retired in 2004. Bud was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, traveling to the mountains, and the Florida State Seminoles. His family was his greatest treasure and spending time with them brought him the most joy.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents John D. and Ellen Jewel (Clark) Wilkinson; sister, Joyce McKoy (Hayward); and his beloved wife of 58 years, Lendette Royston Padgett. We find comfort knowing they are reunited again because, during their time together here on earth, they were inseparable.
Survivors include his sons, Gregory Allen Padgett Sr. (Tammy) of Clay Hill, Glenn Owen Padgett Sr. (Joan) of Newberry, and Grady Dale Padgett (Pam) of Maxville; brothers, Jerry Padgett (Linda Faye), Bobby Wilkinson, and John “Shu Shu” Wilkinson (Mary Lou) all of Clay Hill; grandchildren, Mikki (Ryan), Zachary, Owen (Rachel), Dylan (Abagail) and Gregory (Brittany); great-grandchildren, Celina, Colton, and Iyla Grace.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Long Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Harry Conaway officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
