Jewell Fay Combs, age 86, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021, at the Community Hospice Douglas Center for Caring in Jacksonville. She was born on October 18, 1934, at home in Glen St. Mary to Azell Jackson and Pency Cola (Clark) Hodges. Jewell was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family. Her greatest passion outside of her family though was dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ed Hodges, Morris Hodges, Autrey Hodges, A.J. Hodges, Ray Dice, and Cecil Dice; sisters, Gladys Pierce, Lucille Parrish, Lou Davis, and Lettie Dice; her cherished dog, Pretty Girl; and her wonderful husband of 37 years, James Elwin Combs.
Survivors include her sons, James E. Combs Jr. (Patsy) of Glen St. Mary, and Dennis E. Combs (Stephanie) of Taylor; daughters, Lynette Griffis (David) of Glen St. Mary, and Carol Sue James (Bob) of Macclenny; brothers-in-law, Ray Combs (Linda), and Eugene Combs (Cindy); sisters-in-law, Verna Stewart (Billy), Doris Combs (Tommy), and Ferrell Robinson; grandchildren, Tammy Goettyl, Timothy Griffis, Jamie Combs, Corey Combs, Niki Morrison, Dustin Combs, Lyndsay Minnon, Travis Combs, and Hunter Combs; 14 great-grandchildren; her dear friend and 18 year dancing partner, Keith Moore; and lifelong friend, Robert Scoles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Christian Fellowship Temple with Pastor David Thomas and Pastor Dale Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in Manntown Cemetery, Glen St. Mary. Visitation with the family will be held Monday evening, March 15, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church.
