James Reed Peterson

James Reed Peterson, age 81, of Maxville, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He was born in Jacksonville on September 3, 1941, to Arthur O. and Evelyn (Walden) Peterson and lived in Maxville for the past 46 years. Mr. Peterson was a proud United States Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne Rangers. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and steadfast servant to his savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. James was an Ordained Minister with The SWARM Ministry of Missions. He and his beloved wife, Peggy would travel and attend church camps and assisted living homes with SWARM in the summer, where they would sing, play and witness to everyone. James loved to work on vehicles and watch NASCAR. He always had a steady hand to help guide his family and an even firmer grip on the TV remote.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara Jean Brown; and his best friend of 56 years, his beloved wife, Peggy Peterson. Survivors include his sons, Vernon Peterson (Joyce) of Macclenny and Aaron Peterson of Ortega; daughter, Jammie Swearingen of Jacksonville; brother, Vernon Peterson of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Kristian Gaden, Kameron Hodges (Duane), Ashton Moseley, Hannah Peterson, Zackery Peterson, Gunner Peterson, and Dylan Peterson; great-grandchildren, Kalei Hodges, Jaxton Ellis, Tanner Hodges, and Adeline Hodges; numerous nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Long Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Fish officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery.
