Nellie Frances Wood, age 86, of Jacksonville, Florida, went home to Heaven on Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born to Nellie (Leigh) and Dupont Magill in Jacksonville on March 15, 1937. Frances graduated in 1955 from the first graduating class of Paxon Senior High School and worked at Prudential Insurance for many years. On June 13, 1964, she married Raymond Wood, a sailor in the US Navy.
Frances was a consistent and enduring example of a Christian woman who lived her life fully "as unto the Lord." She enjoyed a variety of ministries in her lifetime, such as teaching a women's Bible study. Perhaps her favorite area of ministry was inspiring and encouraging others. Her love for people showed as she never met a stranger. Frances would leave devotional tracts around town, sharing the gospel and praying for anyone she met. In her later years, she used email and Facebook to provide comfort to people all over the world.
Frances will also be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing games, and watching Westerns!
Frances was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Charles Magill and Albert Magill. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Wood of Jacksonville; children, David Wood (Tami) of Jacksonville, James Wood, Sr. (Brandi) of Macclenny, and Paula Winstead (Scott) of Waco, Texas; grandchildren, James Jr., Nathan, Matthew, Amanda, and John; and sister, Mary Magill of Jacksonville.
A Celebration of Frances' Life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Jones Road Baptist Church, 2506 Jones Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32220. Her sons David and James will officiate the service.
