Elvia "Jean" Padgett, age 81, of Maxville, Florida, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Clay. She was born on June 19, 1941, to Bertha Elizabeth (Wellhausen) and Oscar Lee Harris and was a lifelong resident of Maxville. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Padgett devoted her time to tending her gardens and loving her grandbabies unconditionally. She was a homemaker and a dedicated servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as a longtime member of First Baptist of Maxville.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leon Harris; and her beloved husband of 65 years, J.D. Padgett. Survivors include her sons, John David Padgett (Kathy Hausler) of Maxville, and Harry Lee “Bosher” Padgett (Melinda) of Taylor; daughters, Jeanna Marie Keen (Wayne) of Macclenny, and Tammi Roxanne Simmons (Tommy) of Bluffton, South Carolina; sisters, Dorothy Higginbotham, Grace Padgett, Sue Stubbs (Jerry), and Clara Croft (George), all of Maxville; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Maxville with Pastor Richard Fish and Joey Nolan officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church of Maxville for the Children's Church Construction Fund.
