Eloise Geneva Griffis, age 95, of Macclenny, Florida passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on August 3, 1925, in Duval County to Joe Alfred and Lou Retta (Hilliard) Thompson. Eloise spent most of her life as a resident of Baker County. Mrs. Griffis was a homemaker and mother, and an ardent believer in Jesus Christ. She was most recently a member of the Maxville Church of Christ. She enjoyed praying, reading the bible, and she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, D.L. Griffis; son, Joseph Earnie Griffis; parents, Joe Thompson and Lou Retta Thompson; brothers, Virgil Thompson, Morris Thompson, Joseph Louis Thompson, Alfred Thompson; and sister, Elizabeth Thompson.
Mrs. Griffis is survived by her children, Mary Lou (James) Griffis-Parish of Nashville, TN, Robert (Vivien) Griffis of Macclenny, David (Lynette) Griffis of Glen St. Mary, James (Edith) Griffis of Huddleston, VA, and Richard (Roseanne) Griffis of Glen St. Mary; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dale Hodges officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
