Edwin F. Zoll

Edwin F. Zoll, age 74, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Community Hospice Care Center for Caring St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville. He was born on Thursday, July 14, 1949, in Waukon, Iowa, to Mary (O’Malley) and James Zoll, and lived in Baker County since 1985. Mr. Zoll retired in 2006 after teaching advanced mathematics at Baker County High School for 23 years. He will be remembered by former students and colleagues alike for his educational and entertaining classes, as well as for his innate ability to spread chalk dust. Outside of school, Ed was a young-at-heart adventurer that enjoyed being outdoors, hiking in such exotic locales as Costa Rico and Ecuador, and taking care of his various animals, including cats, dogs, pot-bellied pigs, pygmy goats, llamas, and various birds. He was equally passionate in pursuing intellectual stimulation through puzzles, crosswords, and chess, as well as by collecting unusual art and crafting stained glass. A consummate gentleman, Ed’s generosity, playful wit, and relaxed nature made him a great friend to all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a positive and memorable influence on countless individuals, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his devoted and beloved wife and best friend of 51 years, Alice Zoll of Macclenny; his brothers, Joe Zoll of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mike Zoll of Guttenberg, Iowa; and his sister, Lisa Dodds (John) of Dubuque, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
