Douglas Roll Obituary

Douglas Albert Roll, age 49, of Macclenny, Florida, took his place at the feet of Jesus on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Doug was a kind, loyal, dedicated, quiet, and humble man who was loved by many and a man who loved many unconditionally.
Douglas was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on October 16, 1973. He grew up on the Westside of Jacksonville and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1993. Shortly thereafter, he began working for Don Taylor and Associates. Through his employer’s (Don) love for Christ and his love for Doug, Doug accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Promise Land Baptist Church.
In December of 2000, Douglas married his soulmate, Heather, and he spent every day of the next 22 years showing how much he adored her. Doug loved spending time with his wife. He would always say, "I don’t care what we’re doing. If you’re there, then I’m going to be there.” Doug was known for encouraging other men to love their wives, and would tell them that he prays nightly that “God would give him eyes only for Heather.”
Doug was a father who loved his children like no other father. He was dedicated to his children, their relationship with Christ, their health, and their education. There was no limit to what he would do for his children. He taught them hard work and he expected them to always live up to their potential.
Doug was a loyal and loving son to his mom. Doug cherished the time he spent with his mom, especially their Monday lunches reminiscing about long time friends and family.
While growing their family, Douglas began his career at JEA, where he worked for the next 19 years. Doug was proud to work at JEA and loved the men he worked with. He was known amongst the brotherhood as “the nicest guy at JEA.” Over the years at JEA, Doug worked as a cable splicer, substation technician, and lastly as a relay technician. He loved learning all he could about his job and talking to people about his career.
Doug spent almost 10 years at Old Plank Road Baptist Church. He was forever grateful for the discipleship and encouragement he received there as a new believer. At Old Plank, he began teaching Sunday school, working in VBS, and working with the youth.
Doug and Heather saved up and bought land in Macclenny, where they built their forever home to raise their family. Doug loved Macclenny and the people in it. He loved opening day at baseball, gatherings at the schools, and the Christmas parade. He knew that God was moving in this community and wanted to be a part of it. As a family, they joined Raiford Road Church and were members for almost 10 years. Doug loved serving people. He was a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and outstanding role model to the youth of the church. Doug was a walking example of being Christ-like which led to him being ordained as a deacon at Raiford Road.
Doug is currently a member of Grace Fellowship Church. He believed the Lord is working mightily at Grace Fellowship and yearned to be a part of what God is doing. You could find him either working as an usher, helping on a committee, or spending time teaching the youth. Doug’s love for the Lord was abundant, and it was his mission to allow God to use him to spread the word.
If Douglas wasn’t working or at church, you could find him in the gym working out, on his boat, down on Lake Kerr, finding a path to hike in the mountains, or living life with his most important treasure, his family. Doug will be missed by many. Although he was soft spoken, he was a leader. He inspired all that knew him.
Doug is survived by his wife, Heather; three children, Brianna, Liam, and Kayd; grandchildren, BraeLynn, BrynLeigh, Mattie, and Millie; his mother, Rosie; parents-in-law, Ronnie and Helen Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Molly and Joe Graham; nieces and nephew, Bethany, Emily (Jordan), and David; and countless friends he counted as family. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Roll.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Old Plank Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Old Plank Road Baptist Church with Pastors Nathaniel Simmons, Eddie Griffis, and Larry McGinley officiating. Interment will follow in Manntown Cemetery in Glen St. Mary.
