Cherie Case Obituary

Cherie Lynn Case, age 47, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Palm Garden of Jacksonville under the care of Community Hospice. She was born on July 31, 1976, to Lana Jo (Rex) and Robert James Case in Osaka, Japan. After her father retired from the Navy, the family eventually settled in Macclenny, where Cherie attended Baker County High School, graduating in the class of 1995. She then went on to earn an Associate's Degree in General Studies from Lake City Community College. Cherie's love of travel began early in life after being born into a Navy family. As an adult, she continued her traveling adventures, which took her to places such as Tennessee, Dexheim and Vilseck, Germany, and Washington State before moving back home to her roots in Macclenny. Not only was Cherie a loving mother and social butterfly, but she was also very quick-witted and had a remarkable sense of humor. She enjoyed numerous activities and hobbies throughout her life, including barrel racing as a youth. She was also an avid reader, especially of books written by her favorite author, Sandra Brown. Cherie enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music, ranging from Classical and Broadway to 1980s Rock and Hair Bands. She was also a talented artist and painter. Cherie's love for animals was a major aspect of who she was throughout her life. She was known for her fondness of butterflies, chickens, and turtles, just to name a few, even stopping in the middle of the road on one occasion to move a turtle from harm's way. Because of her fascination with chickens, she was proudly known to many as the "Certified Crazy Chicken Lady." A beloved family pet that Cherie and her children absolutely adored was their Australian Shepherd, which she lovingly called "Moose Puppy."
Cherie was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, David Gochenour. She is survived by her children, Robert Gochenour (Tiffany) of Sanderson and Jolynn Gochenour of Macclenny; her children's father, Frank Gochenour (Cheryl) of Mechanicsville, Maryland; bonus sisters and soulmates, Jeanette Morgan of St. Petersburg, Florida, Selena Abreus of Seattle, Washington, and Laura Stewart of Lake City, Florida; and husband, Damon "Craig" Pendleton.
A Celebration of Cherie's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment to immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
