Billy Kinghorn Obituary

Billy Carlton Kinghorn, age 88, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. He was born on July 14, 1935, to Arthur and Elsie Altman Kinghorn in Jacksonville, Florida.
Billy was a very hard working man that dedicated his life to providing for his family and helping those around him. He never knew a stranger and was loved by his small town community.
In 1949, Billy began work at Dixie Milling Company to help provide for his family. In 1954, at just 18 years old he joined the United States Army and attended basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After basic training, Billy served in Ulm, Germany for two years. During Billy's tour in Germany, he played US Army football as defensive guard, trained as a cook, explored Europe, and learned to play a "mean game of poker."
In January 1957, Billy was honorably discharged from the US Army to attend Massey Business School for one year. He was then accepted to South Georgia Junior College, where he played football for Coach Bobby Bowden with his good friends, Vernon Giles and Ron Minshew.
After his time in Georgia, Billy went on to play football at Howard College (Birmingham, Alabama) and Arkansas State College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He also served his community as a Shriner and 32nd Degree Freemason for over 50 years. Following graduation, Billy worked for the Jacksonville Shipyard, where he served 23 years as General Superintendent.
In the late 1970's, Billy and his wife Peggy moved with their four sons from Jacksonville to Baker County. This was truly Billy’s home where he and his family made everlasting memories. Here they started chicken farming and raising Beefmaster cattle. Billy was a lifetime member of the Beefmasters Breeders United, dedicated to the cause of increasing demand for Beefmaster cattle in Florida.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Lawrence, Robert, Archie, Helen, Jessie, and Willy, his beloved twin brother. Billy is survived by his four sons and daughters-in-law, Rik (Doris), Eric (Brenda), William (Melody), and Shawn (Crystal); ten grandchildren, Crystal, Erica, Taylor, Tucker, Chase, Cheyenne, Toby, Kole, Cannon, Taz; and four great-grandchildren, Caden, Lincoln, Jak, and Atlas.
Billy spent 88 years on this earth and has made his mark and left a lasting impression on all those who knew him.
Private family services will be held.
