IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilson Lance
"Griff" Griffis
March 14, 1956 – February 16, 2022
Wilson Lance "Griff" Griffis, age 65, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Lake City VA Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 14, 1956, in Starke, Florida, to W.L. and Aline (Dale) Griffis. Griff left home at the young age of seventeen to join the military and was deployed during the Vietnam War. Though he was a proud Army vet, he was a hippie at heart. Griff had many jobs over the years, but his passion was carpentry, having learned from his father. He built his own furniture. Griff was a spiritual, strong willed man who loved life and good home cooked southern food, but nothing compared to his love for sweet Mary Jane. Many days were spent in her warm glow, and when he wasn't with her, he was contemplating their next rendezvous. Griff was a jokester. He loved to tease and poke fun but could take it as well as dish it out. Griff had a big wide grin that could light up a room, distinguished by the space in between his two front teeth. He was quite proud of his grin, to the point that he insisted his dentures had his trademark space in them. He was certainly a character and will be missed by all who knew him. Those of you who also know Mary Jane, give her a tight squeeze for ol' Griff, and if she takes your breath away, just give her another. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert "Robbie" Griffis. Griff leaves behind his sons, Josh Griffis (Sarah) of Missouri and Trey Wisniewski (Carrie) of Nebraska; brother, Norman Kinley (Josephine); sisters, Rollene Stafford and Alicia Beverly (Daniel); grandchildren, Zane, Ramzey, Norah, Kraig, Kenzie, Ariana, and Rion; close cousin, Wilmar "Pap" Bryant, whom he lovingly referred to as his nephew; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Griff will be laid to rest at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, in Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to the care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL & CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. (904) 259-2806.
