In Loving Memory of Wayne  Cherill Mobley

Wayne Cherill Mobley, a proud U.S. Marine through and through, stood at attention one final time as he was called to higher service on Saturday, May 17, 2025. While he may have traded in his boots and Stetson hat for heavenly wings, we're sure he's already organizing a pool tournament and setting up a ping-pong table at his new post. Born on January 20, 1941, Cherill "Papa" lived life with discipline, heart, and a good dose of humor - though he liked to pretend he was stricter than he really was. His kids and grandkids knew that behind that Marine stare was a soft spot the size of Texas, even if he'd never admit it out loud. He shared 33 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Kathy, a partnership filled with laughter, adventure, and just the right amount of "Yes, dear." Together, they built a life full of love and unforgettable memories. He loved the simple joys: the thrill of quail hunting, teaching Sunday School, the freedom of horseback riding, and showing off his dance moves whenever the music called (which, let's be honest, was anytime music was playing). If there was a pool table nearby, you could bet he was chalking up his cue, ready to school anyone brave enough to challenge him - young or old. And while he ruled the ping-pong table like a drill sergeant, the laughter coming from those games could be heard for miles. Most at peace under an open sky, Cherill "Papa" loved the outdoors, teaching those around him to appreciate the beauty of nature, the value of hard work, and the importance of family. His legacy lives on in the stories we'll keep telling - some of which might even be true. Cherill was preceded in death by his parents, Cincinnati (Dicks) and William Charlton Mobley, and his brother, Patrick "Pulpwood" Mobley. He leaves behind his wife, Kathy Mobley of Macclenny; sons, Rick Mobley (Wendy) of Jefferson, Georgia and Rhett Mobley of Macclenny; daughters, Jackie Willmott (Charles) of Macclenny, Reagan Mobley of Macclenny, and Julie Benkoski (John) of Madison, Georgia; and sister, Carolyn Conway of Amelia Island. He continues his legacy through his grandchildren, Chase, Taylor, London, Stacey, William, Logan, Kendall, Katelin, Alissa, and Leah, along with eight great-grandchildren, all of whom are honored to carry his memory forward with a straight spine, a good joke, and maybe even a dance or two. In true Marine fashion, we'll stand tall, celebrate his life, and remember that while he may have been tough on the outside, his heart was always in the right place. Semper Fi, Dad. You'll always be our hero. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Macclenny with Pastor John Schultz officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. Arrangements entrusted to the dedicated care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL AND CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. (904) 259-2806.
