Wayne Dale Butterfield, age 70, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, after an extended illness. He was born on November 3, 1955, in Waterloo, Iowa, one of five children to Fern and Wilbur Butterfield.
Wayne was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who enjoyed watching NASCAR and reading Sci-Fi. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Wayne was also a big Iowa Hawkeyes fan. If you wanted to aggravate him, all you had to do was be a Michigan fan or talk about how good they were playing.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Fred Butterfield and Wilma Butterfield; and his beloved wife of 43 years, Cathryn Michele Butterfield. Survivors include his daughter, Michele Rousselle (Roland) of Middleburg; son, Richard Davis (Kimberly) of Maxville; brother, Virgil Butterfield (Luanne) of Iowa; sister, Paula Butterfield of Iowa; grandchildren, Michael Rousselle (Mallory), Joshua Davis (Taylor), Christopher Rousselle (Kara), and Zachary Davis (Jessica); and ten great-grandchildren.
Wayne will be laid to rest next to Cathryn at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
