Obituary

Wanda Josey Mathis, age 75, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 13, 2026. She was born in Cordelle, Georgia, on August 22, 1950, to Seleda Lily (Dowdy) and Abe Calvin Josey. Wanda was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She had a beautiful, giving, servant's heart. Her unwavering faith carried her through her battle with breast cancer twice and through Parkinson's disease. She went through all of this never once complaining, and only worried herself with the well-being of others. Wanda devoted her life to God, family, and her grandbabies. She held many positions in her career, including working with Amtrak. She retired as a customer service representative at Coach, a role that was a perfect fit for her loving, caring personality and her desire to help everyone. She was a talented artist who loved to paint and do arts and crafts.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and stepfathers, John and Charles. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, James A. Mathis III of Jacksonville; son, James A. Mathis IV (Jessica) of Macclenny; daughter, Seleda A. Neyman (Wes) of Summerville, South Carolina; brothers, Randy Josey of Brooksville and Rickey Josey (Karen) of Jacksonville; sisters, Connie Frye of Apopka and Pamela Johnson of Baldwin; grandchildren, Grace, James, Silas, and Lorelei; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Arrangements entrusted to the dedicated care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL AND CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. 904-259-2806.
