March 16, 1944 – December 5, 2020
Mr. Thomas G. Hendrix, age 76, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Community Hospice Douglas Center for Caring at Baptist Medical Center Downtown. Thomas was born in Jacksonville to Thomas M. and Dovey Lee (Yarber) Hendrix. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed fishing, bowling and was a tremendous Florida Gator fan. He proudly served in the United States Army with the Presidential Honor Guard (3rd Army Division / Ft. Myers, VA). He then went on to serve faithfully with the Jacksonville Sheriff Office, retiring after 28.5 years with the force. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Benjamin Hendrix; nephew, Mathew S. Hendrix; and a beloved stepfather, George Brooks Williams. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Joan Hendrix of Jacksonville; son, Thomas George "TG" Hendrix of Jacksonville; daughters, Paula D. (Roy Waters) Warren of Florahome, Pamela M. (Grady) Padgett and Patricia L. (Jimmy) Thoren both of Jacksonville; brother, Wesley S. (Regina) Hendrix of Macclenny; sisters, Carole (Fred) Colbert of Garfield, Arkansas, Tammy (Greg) Padgett, of Clay Hill, Janice of Texas, Barbara of Orange Park and Joanne of Jacksonville Beach; grandchildren, Zachary, Dylan (Abagail), Jake, Alexis, Ethan, Olivia, Ava, Emma, and Isla; great-grandchild, Carlee; nephew, Lance (Carol) Hendrix; niece, Lee Hendrix; and best friend for 66 years, Butch McDaniels. Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, in Long Branch Cemetery, Maxville, Florida with Pastor Harry Conaway officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. prior to service at the graveside. The family has two requests, first, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Thomas Hendrix's honor to Community Hospice & Palliative Care of Jacksonville, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257, or online at communityhospice.com/give.
