Teresa Capps Johns, age 64, of Maxville, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay after an extended illness. Born to Edith (Parker) and James Capps on December 19, 1961, she was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville.
A caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Teresa devoted her time and love to raising her extensive family. Her quiet hobbies included hand painting rocks, hiding them, and rock hunting. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leonard “Brother” N. Capps, and Michael “Monk” D. Capps; sister, Florida Beverly; and her daughter, Ashley Padgett. Survivors include her sons, Jonathan Padgett (Kathy) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Adrian Mayerlen, and Mark Mayerlen, both of Maxville; daughters, Teresa Mixson (Jason) of Jacksonville, Kristy Godwin of Maxville, Amanda Johns (Denny) of Middleburg, and Mariah Mayerlen of Maxville; brother, Franklin “Frankie” J. Capps (Jeannie) of Jacksonville; sister, Renae Capps (Donnie) of Ellenboro, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Naudia Hylton (Davar), Ethan Lee (Mariah), Nyia Mixson, Hailey Padgett, Madison Lee, and Brayson Lee, great grandchildren, Davina Hylton, Keino Hylton and Alani James.
