IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen "Rusty"
Russell Horne Sr.
August 26, 1951 – December 28, 2024
Stephen "Rusty" Russell Horne Sr., age 73, of Macclenny, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at his home after an extended illness with his loving family at his side. He was born in Jacksonville on August 26, 1951, to Juanita (Smith) and Robert Lee Horne Jr., and moved to Baker County in 2012. Rusty was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who devoted his love and attention not only to his family that he adored but to countless children in Jacksonville through his many years at Wheelchairs Plus. He did not consider it a job, but he dedicated his life to building custom wheelchairs, ensuring that children with disabilities could live their lives to the fullest. Rusty was saved in his late twenties at Park City Baptist Church. He was a faithful servant of the Lord teaching 5th/6th grade Sunday School not only to his children, but to countless others for many years as a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Jacksonville. After moving to Macclenny, he became an active member at Raiford Road Church. He cherished family vacations, teaching many to snow and water ski. He also had a passion for antiquing and woodworking. His creativity shone through in the many things he lovingly crafted for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Horne; and sister, Mary Lyons. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia Horne; daughter, Kim (Garry) Pelfrey; son, Russell Horne; siblings, Bob (Nancy) Horne, Bill (Cindy) Horne, Susan Posey, Mike (Sharon) Horne, Nancy (Tommy) Johnson, Danny (Kathy) Horne, and Jenny (Billy) Thompson; former brother-in-law, Greg (Denise) Lyons and sister-in-law, Tami Horne; affectionately known as "Umpa" to his two granddaughters, Savannah and Kerrigan Pelfrey; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Funeral services to honor the life of Rusty will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Raiford Road Church, 9201 South State Road 121, Macclenny, Florida with Pastor Bill Horne and Pastor George Maddox officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Graveside services will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, County Road 23D. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rusty's name to Samaritan's Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org or First Coast Women's Services at www.fcws.org.
