Richard Allen "Ricky" Higginbotham, age 66, a lifelong resident of Glen St. Mary, passed away at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital after a brief illness on Saturday, February 25, 2023. He was born in Macclenny on July 11, 1956, to Mary Rosetta (Staier) and John David Higginbotham. Ricky had a kindhearted, happy spirit that drew people to love him. He was known for his mechanical aptitude. Ricky fixed automobiles in his early life and then household appliances later, everything up to washers and dryers. He loved football and enjoyed rooting for his Florida Gators. His family was his refuge as Muscular Dystrophy started to take its toll. Ricky was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend whose memory has left a loving scar on our hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 10 years, Shirley Higginbotham; brother, John David Higginbotham Jr.; and nephew, John D. Higginbotham III. Survivors include his son, Richard Higginbotham of Glen St. Mary; sister, Sherilyn Reynolds of Glen St. Mary; nieces, Deedra Dinkins (Ronny) of Glen St. Mary and Becky Raulerson of Baxter; nephew, Bryan Higginbotham (Jenna); and his dear friend, Lee James of Glen St. Mary. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, in Manntown Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Griffis officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel before proceeding to the cemetery.
