Mrs. Peggy Joyce Peterson, age 76, a lifelong resident of Maxville, Florida passed away on Monday, September 21, 2020, at the Custead Care Center in Orange Park. She was born in Maxville on April 11, 1944, to Albert and Jane Geneva (Byrd) Smith. Peggy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maxville. Peggy loved Jesus, her church, and especially her family. She and her husband, James sang gospel music for a number of years and they were also ordained home missionaries through the Southern Baptist Association. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James R. Peterson of Maxville; sons, Vernon Peterson (Joyce) of Macclenny and Aaron Peterson (Megan Hayes) of Fleming Island; daughter, Jammie Swearingen of Jacksonville; sisters, Patsy Griffis (Buddy) of Maxville, Robbin Harris (David) of Jacksonville, and Roxanne Rosier of Maxville; grandchildren, Kristian Gaden, Kameron Hodges (Duane), Ashton Moseley, Hannah Peterson, Zackary Peterson, Gunner Peterson, and Dylan Peterson; great-grandchildren, Kalei Hodges, Jaxton Ellis, Tanner Hodges, and Adeline Hodges; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020, at Long Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Fish and Pastor Gene Dillon officiating. Interment in Long Branch Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
