Obituary

Freddie Eugene Griffis, age 76, of Maxville, Florida, slipped away quietly with Jesus on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home in Maxville. He was born in Maxville on July 23, 1947, to Addie (Spivey) and Waver Griffis. He was a lifelong resident of Maxville, where he started his first job working at Gillman Paper Company before getting on the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, which later became CSX. Freddie retired after 20+ years there before becoming what Maxville knew him best as Pastor Freddie Griffis. He loved working and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family. Brother Freddie steadfastly dedicated the rest of his life to the service of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Never would you ever have the privilege to meet a more honest, humble servant of God. Brother Freddie had spent a great deal of his life as Pastor of Nolan Ridge Church, hidden away in a peaceful patch of the Jennings State Forest. Brother Freddie is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Griffis; son, Danny Eugene Griffis; and daughter, Tonya Thomas. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Dollie Mae Griffis; son, Wesley E. Griffis (Cookie) of Maxville; daughter, Missy Padgett (Dickie) of Clay Hill; sisters, Betty Hillard of Mayo and Penny Pam Williams of Macclenny; son-in-law, Dean Thomas of Maxville; six grandchildren, Karri Harris (Travis), Punkin Mathews (James), Travis Griffis, Ashley Miller (Rickey), Douglas Thomas (Shyanne), and Hunter Padgett; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Pastor Freddie Griffis will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in the chapel of Blackburn-Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Kent Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
