Lloyd "L.R." Rex Mills, age 69, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 7, 1954, in Gainesville, Florida, to Josephine Elosie (Johns) and Carl Rex Mills. L.R. was a proud father and grandfather. He graduated from Dixie County High School, and his life's work was for his family. L.R. worked for over 41 years as a supervisor at the Department of Transportation with the State of Florida. He skillfully operated every piece of equipment they had. L.R. survived a sinkhole collapse while on a front-end loader. He loved his career and never missed a day of work until his grandchildren were born. L.R. helped build and repair bridges. He was part of the team that built Cedar Key, Florida Bridge, and the replica London Bridge in Ocala, Florida. He spent months helping with the levee failure in New Orleans after the Katrina hurricane. After retirement, he lovingly cared for his mother for seven years until her passing. L.R. enjoyed watching wrestling, being the Gators' #1 Fan, and spoiling his grandchildren by sneaking them snacks. He was also the best Rummy player ever. L.R. was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving and devoted children, Lloyd "Adam" and his wife, Kimberly Mills and Brandi Nicole Weeks; grandchildren, Logan Mills, Shelby Lilly, Brayden Mills, Shyloh Weeks, Makenna Weeks, Gracie Mills; and other children he claimed as his own.
