Judy Carol Mercer, age 75, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, on July 2, 1949, Judy was the cherished daughter of Dave and Vesta Elswick. She built a life centered around love, laughter, and faith, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warmth. A talented beautician by trade, Judy brought beauty not only through her work, but also through her heart and spirit. She was known for her sweet, gentle nature, a great sense of humor, and a touch of clumsiness that endeared her to all who knew her. Judy had a deep love for singing and dancing, and she never missed a chance to cook a delicious meal. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy. She especially loved reading her Bible, planting flowers and trees, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life, like family time, a good trip to T.J. Maxx, and a bowl of cornbread and milk. Judy's warmth, faith, and laughter will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her siblings Lillian (Pie), Buddy, Bobby, Chab, Sissy, Hubert, Edward, Davis, and Victor, with whom she shared deep family bonds. Judy was the beloved wife of Glendale Mercer and a devoted mother to Christopher Mercer and Brittany Mercer Screws. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Izzy, Paizley, and Zadie, who brought her immense joy and whom she loved making laugh. She also leaves behind her son-in-law, Derek Screws, and two loving brothers, Daniel Elswick and Jimmy Elswick. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. The family respectfully asked that no flowers be sent.
