John "Poppy" Clifton Tyson Sr., age 77, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at his home, surrounded by love. He was the son of Loretha (Stokes) and William Oliver Tyson, born on April 4, 1948, in Macclenny. Johnny was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a great love for fishing, hunting, and drag racing. Poppy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron Tyson; son, Johnny Tyson; grandson, Daryl Tyson; and in-laws, Alfred and Earlie Turner. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel Tyson; daughter, Tammie Humphrey (Dave); daughter-in-law, Windy Tyson; sister, Retha Tatum; grandchildren, Hannah Barnhart (Tim), Josh Humphrey (Charlie), Abby Humphrey, Emma Humphrey, Davey Humphrey, Daniel Humphrey, C.J. Hunt (Sarah), Rebecca Combs (Ben), Travis Tyson (Ashley); 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog and best friend, Maggie. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Christian Fellowship Temple with Pastor David Thomas and Pastor Timmy Thomas officiating.
