IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joann Midyette
Godwin
August 26, 1939 – December 2, 2025
Joann Midyette Godwin, age 86, of Maxville, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Born in Jacksonville on August 26, 1939, she was one of nine children born to Nettie Mae (Harris) and George Midyette. Joann was one of those traditional southern hospitality ladies. Anyone who walked through her door was always greeted with a warm meal, whether it was a pan of her famous homemade biscuits or her delicious ham with field peas over rice and a cold glass of sweet tea. One thing's for sure, you never left her home hungry! Mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother, her title applied to everyone. Joann loved caring for others. It's who she was. Family, friends, or complete strangers, everyone was welcomed with equal love and generosity. Having raised James Godwin and Michael Midyette as her own, along with several other children throughout the years, truly shows her love and compassion. One thing's for sure, she adored her babies, and spoiling them was not optional. Joann's love for camping, traveling to the mountains, and listening to good bluegrass music with her husband were just a few things she cherished dearly. She also enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her garden. From picking her grapes off the vine to growing her cucumbers, squash, and peas were just a few things that brought her so much joy. Joann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sammy, Walter, George, Ander, Joe, David, and Burnette Midyette; sister, Sarah Walker; son, Robert Godwin; daughter, Barbara Brown; grandson, Robert Hobbs; and her beloved husband of 45 years, Bobby Lee Godwin. Survivors include her grandchildren, James Godwin (Ashley), Jessie Godwin, Zach Godwin, Regina Brown, Lindsey Godwin, and Tabitha Godwin; great-grandchildren, Austin, Kori, Kolton, Robert Jr., Jesse, Haylee, Hayden, Waylon, Savannah, Bryce, and Waylon; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Maxville with Pastor Larry McGinley officiating. Interment will follow in Manning Cemetery in Jacksonville. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the dedicated care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL AND CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. (904) 259-2806.
