Jay Allen Hertzog Sr., age 63, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully at UF Health Jacksonville on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was born in Ephrata Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania on June 22, 1961, to John M. Hertzog Sr. and Jane E. (Fasnacht) Hertzog. Throughout his early career, Jay worked for Toyota for many years as a mechanic in the service department. He also worked with his father at the family pool company, Hertzog Construction. However, Jay's true love and talent was working on vehicles. He worked for several mechanic shops where he truly found his calling. Jay enjoyed fishing, feeding the ducks, and being outdoors. He cared more about other people than he did himself and always wanted to help others. He had a caring heart and love for humanity. He will be missed by many. Jay is predeceased in death by his parents; brother, John M. Hertzog Jr.; and sisters, Tina M. Cash and Penny E. Nakoa. He leaves behind his children, Maria Jones (Shawn), Jay A. Hertzog Jr., and Mark Hertzog; siblings, Candy Lester (Alan) of Fernandina, Jeffrey Hertzog (Helen), and Crystal Riner (Wade), both of Jacksonville; along with several nieces and nephews.
