Mr. James "Jimmy" David Cannon, age 78, a lifelong resident of Live Oak, Florida, was called Home into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Shands UF Gainesville after a brief illness. He was born on July 25, 1943, in Inglis, Florida, to Hoyt Preston and Loliett Elizabeth (McGuire) Cannon. Jimmy was a beloved husband, father, PaPa Cannon, brother, uncle, and friend. His home church was Friendship Baptist Church. Jimmy enjoyed western movies, spending time with his family, and eating. His hobbies included working with his horses and riding in his wagon. Jimmy always considered Cannon Farm "God's Country," where he spent his life breaking and training horses, horse trading, and livestock farming. He and his wife had recently moved to Salem, Florida, which they referred to as their "Garden of Eden." Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tena Cannon Cashmore; and siblings, Lewis Cannon, Lawrence Cannon, Helen Cannon, Douglas Cannon, and Esther Cannon Hurst. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 41 years, Donna Jean Hurst Cannon of Salem; children, Tammy Lee of McAlpin, Kim Warren (Terrie) of Jasper, Tonya Lee (Frank) of Live Oak, Shuandra Perbtani of Live Oak, Davy Cannon (Pam) of Salem, and Carol Cannon of Texas; sister, Betty Jo Cannon of Live Oak; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; beloved horse, Junior; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Friendship Baptist Church, 14634 140th Street, Live Oak, Florida 32060 with Pastor James "Davy" D. Cannon Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
