Gwendolyn Bennett Walls, age 82, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Orange Park Hospital in Orange Park, Florida, with family by her side. Gwen was born October 6, 1940, in Taylor, Florida, to James Owen Bennett and Lula Rewis Bennett. After finishing school in Baker County, she attended Lake City Community College obtaining her cosmetology license and worked her entire career as a hairdresser. Later in life, she was also a caregiver while remaining a lifelong resident of Baker County. Gwen was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who enjoyed dancing, bowling, and playing a good game of cards. She enjoyed watching the Grand Ole Opry, taking trips to the beach, and just spending time with her husband and family. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward R. Walls; brothers, Phillip Bennett, Elmer Lee Bennett, Bill Bennett, George Bennett; twin sister, Mrylin Bennett; sister, Maxie Townsend; daughter, Gail Campbell; and son, Doyle Hardenbrook. Gwen is survived by her children, Derenda Dyal, Barbara (Gary) Griffis, Patricia Stephens, Lynn (Mike) Bruce, and Lorie Dyal; grandchildren, Ticha Mitchell, Brandon (Hanna) Griffis, Garrett (Nadia) Griffis, Ashlynn (Bobby) Dugard, Breanna Johnson, Andrew Hardenbrook, Brad Hardenbrook, Chance (Lauren) Hardenbrook, Dillon Hardenbrook, Ethan Hardenbrook, Kaleb Hardenbrook, and Kiley Hardenbrook; siblings, June Brescia, Benny Joe (Patricia) Bennett, Verna Ruth Crews; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gwen was part of a big, loving family and will be missed by all. Funeral services to honor Gwen's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in North Prong Cemetery in Baxter, Florida.
