Mr. Fred "Sam" Harris, age 95, of Bryceville, Florida, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Macclenny Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1927, in Hollister, Florida to Andrew and Vertie (Sculley) Harris and had lived in Bryceville the majority of his life. Mr. Harris served as a Military Policeman during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a strong, honest, hardworking man, but also a soft spoken, compassionate man. Fred loved his family and did his very best to raise his children up right. His love for the Lord and his faith helped to make this an easy task. Fred was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather as well as a dedicated member of Otis Road Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 68 years, Bernice Harris; brother, Millard Harris; sisters, Ella Mae Rafuse and Verdine Harris; granddaughter, Stephanie; and sons-in-law, Bruce Cannon and Steven Acton. Survivors include his son, Tony Harris (Ann); daughters, Donna Cannon and Cherie Acton, all of Jacksonville; brother, Dickie Harris (Glenda) of Macclenny; grandchildren, Freddie, Nikki, Kyle, Jennifer, and Clint; great-grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Tyler, Terrence, Conner, Alexis, Maddie, Hazel, and Loralei; great-great-grandchild, Axel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel with Bishop Stephen Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital online at www.stjude.org/donate.
