Everett Newell Cantrell, age 80, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his friendships, his love of fishing, and a lifetime of service and hard work.
Newell was born and raised in Pound, Virginia, one of seven children born to Everett and Leota Cantrell. Growing up in Pound, Virginia, shaped many of the values he carried throughout his life.
His journey eventually brought him to Florida through his service in the United States Navy. Newell proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Senior Chief. After the Navy, he continued his career as a mechanical engineer at NAS Jacksonville, where he worked until his retirement.
Newell was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joann (Wes) Robinson, Fran (Alvin) Dotson, Brenda (Emory) Gilliam, and Carolyn Meade, all of Pound, Virginia; brother, Lee Roy (Jackie) Cantrell of Harriman, Tennessee; and granddaughter, Sydnei Cantrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Crystal; children, Chris (Donna) Cantrell of Rogersville, Tennessee, Kelli (Jason) Bell of Jacksonville, Jason (Hannah) Cantrell of Plant City, and Matthew (Megan) Cantrell of Gainesville; grandchildren, Chad, Austyn (Victoria), Apryl, Calder, Latt, Mollye; seven great-grandchildren; brother, David (Billie-Jean); brother-in-law, Jeff Meade; and many nieces and nephews of Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Glen Friendship Tabernacle Church, 10042 Clinton Avenue, Glen St. Mary, Florida 32040, with his friend and fishing partner, Pastor Albert Starling, officiating.
