Elizabeth “Mrs. Beth” S. Matteson, age 70, of Macclenny, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Community Hospice Center for Caring at St. Vincent's Riverside, after a courageous battle with cancer and cirrhosis of the liver. She was born on January 29, 1956, in Damariscotta, Maine, the daughter of Susan (Colfer) and Robert Prentice.
Beth had lived in Baker County for over 40 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed going to the beach, working in her yard or garden, and raising Monarch Butterflies at home. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren.
Beth was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her devoted husband of 35 years, Richard B. Gibson of Macclenny; sons, Brandon Matteson (Amber), Brice Gibson (Theresa), both of Macclenny; mother, Susan Zutell of Easley, South Carolina; stepmother, Gloria Prentice of Macclenny; stepsisters, Jennifer Rayburn (Dewey) and Rena Smith, both of Macclenny; and grandchildren, Brayden, Channing, Rico, Diego, and Colyn.
