Obituary

In Loving Memory of Dorothy “Carol” Beazley Horton

“The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.”

Dorothy “Carol” Beazley Horton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 14, 2026. She was 79 years old.
She passed peacefully in the care of St. Vincent’s Hospice, where she was surrounded by care and compassion, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, faith, and memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the hospice staff who cared for Carol during her final days. Their kindness, compassion, patience, and gentle care brought comfort not only to Carol, but also to the family during an incredibly difficult time. The love and dignity they showed her will never be forgotten.
Carol was born on April 9, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Edison Harold Beazley and Dorothy Higginbotham Beazley. She later made her home in Glen St. Mary, Florida, where she built a life centered around the people and things she loved most.
Carol had a true love for music, and that love was woven into the fabric of her life. She also found great joy in her family, her gardens, and in sharing the wonderful stories she carried with her. She had a way of making memories come alive through her stories, and her warmth and elegance left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, whose greatest treasure was the family she loved so deeply.
Carol was married to her husband, Frank J. Horton, for 61 years. Frank survives her and will carry with him the countless memories of the life they shared together.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Hicks (Alphonso), Timmy Horton, Wendy Swords (Lee), and Joshua Jones; her stepsons, Scott Horton and Anthony Horton; her sister, Stella Mae Smith; and a family that continues to grow through the generations, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edison and Dorothy Beazley, and her sister, Ada “Snooky” McDonald.
Carol was a member of the Church of Christ. Throughout her life, her faith in God remained steady and unwavering. She found strength, comfort, and peace in her relationship with the Lord.
Her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express, but her melody will linger on, in the music she loved, in the gardens she tended, in the stories she told, and most of all, in the family she loved so fiercely.
She gave so much of herself to the people around her, and through them, a part of her will live on forever. Her life was a gift, her love was a blessing, and her memory will be cherished through every generation that follows.
Carol’s family will have a private graveside service at a later date.
