Mr. Dryden earned a Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Master of Religious Education from Luther Rice Seminary. After a short stint in the U.S. Army, he served in God's Army on the mission field in Haiti for nearly 45 years with his devoted wife. He loved fishing! He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Baldwin and Missionary Emeritus under Baptist International Missions, Inc. Don founded Grace Baptist Bible Institute in Port-de-Paix, Haiti, and helped start several churches and Christian Day Schools. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Jason; his parents, William Quinton Dryden and Emily Pauline Hale Dryden; and his sister, Mary Rebecca "Becky" Gallagher. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bridgitt Petrey Dryden of Baldwin; children, Benji (Kerri) Dryden of Port-de-Paix, Haiti, Lydia (Robert) Holley of Marrero, Louisiana, Aaron (Laura) Dryden of Cunningham, Tennessee and Esther Toussaint of Jacksonville; brothers, Bill Dryden of Williston, and Ken (Mary) Dryden of Okeechobee; sisters, Patricia Welch of Buckville, and Edith (Richard) Terry of Madison; 8 grandchildren, Micah, Ethan and Katie Dryden, Rachel, Robby and Ryan Holley, Lielle and Levi Toussaint along with a host of other family and friends. His sons and grandsons are honored to be his pallbearers, including Aaron, Robert, Robby, Ryan, Micah, and Ethan. The honorary pallbearers are Brother Larry Altman, Brother Preston Johnson, Brother Leroy Ellison, Pastor Richard Harding, and Pastor Gene Burnsed. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church, 479 Center Street, Jacksonville, Florida, with his son, Benji Dryden, and Pastor Dewayne Jowers officiating. Interment to follow in Brandy Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 AM until the hour of the service.
