Obituary

Donald Lanier Hair, "Don," age 89, of Sanderson, Florida, entered the heavenly gates with family by his side on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Don was born in Barnwell, South Carolina, on February 13, 1934, to the late Lottie Zorn and Joseph Earnest Hair Sr. Don graduated from Bluffton High School and entered the military shortly after. He served from 1952-1955 in the United States Navy and earned the Good Conduct Metal and National Defense Service Ribbon while working as an Airman Engineer. As a civilian, he returned to work with the IBM Company as a Systems Engineer. He had a very successful career and retired in March 1987. In 1955, Don married Gladys Marie Conner and they recently celebrated their 68th year of marriage. They were blessed with two sons, David Lanier (Terri Hair) and Donald Eric (Lisa Hair), four beautiful granddaughters, Brandi Lee (Mark Hand), Lindsey Hair (Gil Ulloa), Sabrina Marie (Earl Fouraker), and Logan Hair (Joseph Jasinski). Don also knew his great-grandchildren well; Carson Lee Hair, Bailey Marie Fouraker, Makenzie Lee Rhoden, Sarah Belle Fouraker, Cuyler Giovanni Ulloa, Emily Grace Fouraker, and Joseph Conner Jasinski. Don's family continues to grow as he was eagerly awaiting baby Carolina Jane Jasinski, who will be born later this year. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Don lived a life of showing God's love wherever he went. He taught Sunday School for many years, served overseas in Honduras alongside his church family, was a long-standing member of the Gideons, and enjoyed helping local families build their homes. As a younger man, Don raised cattle and played golf. In latter years, he was a talented wood turner and enjoyed wood carving. Don spent much of his retired life traveling the United States with the love of his life, "Ace," camping and seeing much of our great country. Don was also an active member at Raiford Road Church. Don is preceded in death by his parents, along with his brother, Joseph Hair Jr. "Jay," and his sisters, Eva Baxter, Ida Elaides, and Margaret Heyward. Don came to know Christ as a young man and served Him throughout his life. Christ is the only true hope. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 "So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Taylor Church. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Taylor Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Griffis officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL & CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. (904) 259-2806.
