Donald "Murph" Lamar Thompson Jr., age 64, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Community Hospice Center for Caring at St. Vincent's Riverside. He was born in Jacksonville on March 19, 1961, to Norma Louise (Smith) and Donald Lamar Thompson Sr. Murph grew up in Baker County for most of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend who always put his family first. Murph raised his sons up to be men of skill, blessing them with the assets to be self sufficient men in many walks of life. At the same time, he taught his daughters to know their worth and never stay anywhere their value is not seen. Murph was a man of many talents. He played guitar and piano, sang karaoke, and loved to DJ. He also had a love for hot rods like no other. Donald Lamar Thompson Jr., "Murph," will be dearly missed by a countless number of family and dear friends. As our hearts will ache, may our souls receive the same peace that his beautiful soul has. Another great voice added to the heavenly choir. Preceded in death by his parents, Murph is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Thompson of Macclenny; sons, Michael "Bubba" Thompson of Jacksonville, Robert Thompson (Jessica) of Jasper, and Matthew Thompson of Macclenny; daughters, Kristin Thompson of Horse Cave, Kentucky and Alyssa Stewart (Shawn) of Macclenny; brother, Larry Thompson of Horse Cave, Kentucky; sister, Lisa Smith (Bill) of Jacksonville; and grandchildren, Kyrie, Angeline, Corey, Carter, Waylon, Cyrus, and Ayden. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
