Dolores "Dee" J.
Graham
April 13, 1928 – March 26, 2026
Dolores “Dee” Graham (born Dolores Jane Schuler) was born April 13, 1928, and was a New Jersey native for many years before settling in Atlantic Beach, Florida. She passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 26, 2026, just weeks before her 98th birthday.
Dee was an exceptional woman and a trailblazer in her field. In 1973, she was among the first three women to become a U.S. Merchant Mariner, years before women were formally graduating from the Merchant Marine Academy. She often served as the only woman among all-male crews while sailing the globe on U.S. cargo ships. She was best known for her sweet, generous nature and her cheerful spirit. She often said her secret to a long life was taking everything in moderation and staying out of trouble.
She is survived by her sister, Audrey; niece, Diana; nephews, Selwyn and Michael; and great-nieces, Allison and Diane Marie. Her warmth and friendship will remain in our hearts always.
A special thanks to our friends at Beaches Community Hospice for the dedicated care provided to Dee in her final years.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to the dedicated care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL AND CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. (904) 259-2806.
