Curtis Lyle Padgett, age 72, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, under the care of Community Hospice at his home, surrounded by love. Born in Live Oak on February 25, 1954, he was the thirteenth of fourteen children to Robert and Katie (Law) Padgett.
Curt was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He worked many years at PCS and enjoyed traveling with his family after retirement. Curt was also a carpenter. His greatest achievement was building a house for his Mama with the help of some of his siblings.
Curt was a hard working man who loved his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a hand or an ear, and was known for his generous nature. Curt was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. An excellent gardener and farmer, he could grow just about anything in his garden. Curt knew and loved the Lord and always felt closest to Him when out in nature.
Curt was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with his parents; siblings, Homer Padgett, Sara Mae Burkett, Shirley Padgett, Virginia Padgett Murphy, Johnny Padgett, Bonnie Padgett, and Juanita Butler; and his first wife of 24 years, Audrey Padgett. He is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Cherie C. Padgett; beloved children, Stacey Harvey, Christopher Perez (Jenn), and Caitlyn Padgett Kussler (James Jr.); bonus children, Joseph Vasquez (Beth) and Chantz Stover; and loving siblings, Latain Spann, Monnette Vanosdol, Bob Padgett (Nancy), Nannette Padgett, Katie C. Taylor (Charles), and Anne Moore (Walt). Curt was the best Grandpa ever to his cherished grandchildren, Carleigh Perez, Trinity Harvey, Sophia Kussler, Peyton Vasquez, Haven Vasquez, and Tripp Perez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church, 5203 County Road 795, Live Oak, Florida 32060. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
If you have one, Curt's wishes were for everyone to wear fishing shirts to his service, or his favorite color, blue.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of BLACKBURN-CURRY FUNERAL AND CREMATION, 380 N. Lowder Street, Macclenny, Florida 32063. (904) 259-2806.
