Charles Howard Gillette, age 88, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, under the care of Community Hospice at Baptist South in Jacksonville. He was born one of seven children on February 7, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Myrtis A. (Millard) and Odell Burt Gillette. Mr. Gillette had been a resident of Baker County for the past 30 years. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle whose dearest passion was his family. A brick mason by trade, Charles was no stranger to hard work. It seemed like he knew everyone in Macclenny, and they knew him. Several of the buildings in downtown Macclenny bear his handy work, and he enjoyed the satisfaction of his labor. When he attended Taylor Church, Charles assisted with the construction of several churches in Nicaragua. He then attended Road to Calvary Church until he was no longer able. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Odell; sister, Esther; daughter, Angie; and his beloved wife of 37 years, Nina Joyce Gillette. Survivors include his sons, Michael Puckett and Charles Gillette Jr; daughters, Angel Atchley, Latonia Cole (Timothy), and Patty Nemec (Tony); brothers, Burt and Raymond Gillette; sisters, Joyce Gillette and Kay Hawkins; grandchildren, Wendy, Kimberly, Cheri, Timothy, Misty, Rebekkah, Lori, Hannah, Megan, and Shadow; and great-grandchildren, Travis, Timothy, Christian, Kensington, Johnathan, Carlyah, Carson, Chelsi, Drake, Lydia, Colton, Ronan, Maria, Annabel, Marisela, Henry, and Miguel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
