Carolyn Christine Gainey, age 77, of Macclenny, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Macclenny on May 9, 1946, to Irene (Wilkerson) and Hugh S. Long. Carolyn lived her entire life in Macclenny and was a lifetime member of Raiford Road Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Carolyn graduated with the Baker County High School Class of 1964. Her second love was horses. Her children grew up with their equestrian siblings. Carolyn enjoyed the companionship they offered and the thrill of barrel racing. With a selfless heart, she would make flower arrangements for grieving families with donated cuttings from the local florists. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lori Moody; siblings, Gene Long, Alta Hinkle, and Freida Trotter; and grandson, Kyle Moody. She is survived by her loving and devoted sons, Marion "Ernie" Gainey of Macclenny and Clay Gainey (Andrea) of Lake City; brother, William "Buddy" Long (Marsha) of Lake Butler; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended church family. Funeral services for Ms. Gainey will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eddie Griffis officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Macclenny. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
