Verdine Y. Harris, age 80, a longtime resident of Maxville, Florida, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Community Hospice St. Vincent’s Center for Caring. She was born on December 23, 1937 in Palatka, Florida, the daughter of the late Andrew and Verdi (Scully) Harris. Over the past few years Ms. Verdine has lived in Macclenny, but for 22 years of her life you could find her friendly face at Joe Lucas's Minute Mart in Maxville. She was a loving aunt, a dear friend to all, and faithful member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Her smile and her kindness will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Milard Harris and her sister, Ella Mae Rafuse.
Survivors include her brothers, Sam Harris (Bernice) of Baldwin, and Richard Harris (Glenda) of Macclenny; nephews, Randy Rafuse (Linda) and Junior Rafuse (Donette), both of Macclenny; along with several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Blackburn-Curry Funeral Chapel with Pastor Richard Fish and Pastor Ed Treadwell officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville, FL. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday evening, February 10, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
